A Life Shaped by Land, Memory, and Words

Lance Sims is a poet, musician, and lifelong resident of Washington State’s Skagit Valley, where his family has tended the land for generations. Growing up surrounded by farmland, forests, and changing seasons, Lance developed a deep reverence for the natural world and the quiet lessons it offers.

His creative work is rooted in observation—of landscapes, relationships, weather, time, and the inner life. Lance writes poetry that reflects on gratitude, love, sorrow, healing, and the shared human experience, often drawing meaning from moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

The Garden: A Poetic Bounty is his debut collection, shaped by family lineage, personal reflection, and the steady rhythms of rural life. The poems are informed by memory and presence, honoring both what endures and what changes.

When he is not writing or composing music, Lance can often be found walking wooded paths, feeding the crows, squirrels, and bunnies that share the land, tending a small herd of cows on the family farm, or spending time with his wife and three grown children. He also shares glimpses of creativity and daily life on Instagram under the name @themendingspace.
